1.Hello everyone, before starting with the actual interview, can you introduce yourself to the readers?
Hi everyone, we’re Violet and Cain from Necessary Evil.
2.Can you tell us about your musical project and how it was born?
Our project is a mix of heavy and electronic music. I think, It’s the main feature of our style. We don't want to stick to the boundaries of one genre and therefore we often experiment. This will be easy to understand just by listening to our full-length album, which was released recently. For example, Deathnote is composed in the metalcore genre, and the track Dark Dances is electronic dance music, in which the guitar is used only in solo part. We have a variety of female vocals - clean, drive, extreme. There are solo parts that are rarely perfomed by everyone now.
We consider the birth date of our project 2019, when we recorded our first EP album. Then our project was called Violet Sky. At that time, our music, with the exception of one song, resembled heavy hard rock\heavy metal, at that time we used only live instruments without synthesizers. We even made an animated video for one of the songs - Gray Cat Story. However, our desire to grow and develop resulted in what you can hear now. We decided to change the name of the project due to changes in our music and its sound.
3.How did you think of your name? Can you retrace the genesis and the meaning of it?
The first project’s name was created without any associations, we just picked up options and settled on what sounds good. When we had a need to change the name of the project, after much deliberation, we settled on Necessary Evil. It's the title of one of the popular Motionless in White songs that we both love to listen to. I think this song also served as a guide to our own style. We consider it quite modern and advanced. Music develops and changes, new genres appear, but the society is prone to conservatism and cannot always appreciate the new approach, so the name Necessary Evil characterizes us in the best possible way.
4.What are your influences and who inspired you?
Cain: I can be inspired by anything related to art. It can be music, not necessarily similar to what we do, films and series, computer games, books. For example, our composition Last Party and its video were inspired by the computer game Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.
Violet: I can be inspired by different stuff. Art,music, positive memories about my travelings to different countries and even social issues or psycological problems.
5.Tell me your favorite bands, for each member of the group?
Cain: I'm a music lover and I like bands of completely different genres. My favourite bands are Avenged Sevenfold, Motionless in White, Hollywood Undead, Night Club, Shadow of Intent, Centhron, Rammstein.
Violet: I’m also a music lover. However,my preferences have changed over time.So now my favorite bands are : Motionless in white, Ice Nine Kills, Night Club, Tiamat.
6.How do you compose your songs?
Mostly, I compose the music first, and only then Violet and I think about the lyrics. However, sometimes ideas for songs come right away, sometimes it’s not even necessary to watch or listen to something before that. I am a perfectionist and my approach is very scrupulous. I can spend hours trying to find the most suitable synth sound for a particular part, or rewrite the chorus ten times until it sounds so that I begin to enjoy listening to it.
7.Tell us about your first live experience and your most recent! Have you ever had "stage anxiety"? Do you have any suggestions for newbies?
So far, we are not concert musicians, but we would like to start soon. I think it will be as exciting as it is for everyone, but we are in the mood to light it up as it should be. The main thing is not to be afraid of mistakes, because the show must go on.
8.What do you think of your fans? What is the strangest anecdote related to them?
We love and appreciate each of them. We are ready to listen if they have any wishes regarding further releases within reason. We will also work to ensure that our audience expands and grows stronger.
Well, if you want a joke, then here it is: my fans keep telling me - why do you think we are your fans? Who the hell are you?
9.Before concluding, we leave room for you to add the last few things!
We want our project to become an indicator that everyone can achieve their dream if they strive for it. There are only two of us, but together we have done a great job: in less than two years we have released an EP album, an animated video, a video with a cover song, a full-length album and a video for one of the songs from it, and right now we are preparing to shoot another one ! This is despite the fact that we are still independent musicians, and therefore we invest hard-earned money in our work (yes, now we work at a regular job and invest the earned money in our music). We will be very happy if you support our work with activity, and our channels with a subscription.
